What's New For Infants

The time is coming, if it hasn't already, when you might want to take your baby into a restaurant with you. This prospect scares some parents because we have all experienced babies who scream and cry and disrupt the whole restaurant while other customers try to eat.

There are things you can do to prepare ahead of time. Even if you plan to mash up your own food and share it with your baby, make sure you take some of his favorite jarred baby food along in case he gets hungry. Also, have handy some of your baby's favorite finger food so that he can feed himself. Take a couple of bottles or sippy cups with you, filled with different liquids, so that your baby has a choice. Bring a couple of his favorite small toys that he can play with while sitting in the high chair at the table.

If you involve your baby in the conversation, talking to him about what he is eating, or about his toy, he is less likely to get bored and think he is being ignored, which could lead to the high pitched squeals and tears.

If your baby has mastered crawling and pulling himself up on furniture by now, he is probably very close to cruising. Cruising is where a baby will practice walking and strengthening his legs by holding onto furniture while he walks around it. If you have several pieces of furniture close together he will often walk around them all, as long as he doesn't have to completely let go at any point.

What Might Concern You at 28 Weeks

Your baby's behavior changes for each person he is left with. He may be a perfect angel for his daycare provider or babysitter, and laugh or coo for grandma and grandpa, while pitching fits and fighting meal time and nap time with you. That can get very frustrating for both mom and baby.

In actuality, you should be happy that your baby feels secure and content enough with you that he can act up a bit. He knows with you, no matter what he does, at the end of the day you will still be holding him, feeding him and loving him. While this doesn't help in the times of fits, it is nice at the end of the day to know that you are trusted by your baby.
